Some days are hard. Even things that should be relatively easy are a chore on hard days. And yet, there is a satisfaction with “hanging in there,” when things become more difficult. A sense of accomplishment when the task is completed. I find I’m getting more enjoyment out of the process than I did years ago. Somewhere along the way I developed tenacity. Something that has come in quite handy.

Perseverance. It simply means staying with it. How long? Until. Until you get the desired results. Until things change. Until.

Winston Churchill, once gave a speech where he simply said, “Never, never, never, never, never give up.” Even the little engine followed this practice, he just kept telling himself he could do it, and eventually he proved it to himself. What we tell ourselves has a lot to do with what we accomplish.

The temptation is great however to throw in the towel, to call it quits, to stop. After all, we reason, others stop, others quit. And yet, deep inside of us lies the hope that we can get there if perhaps we just keep putting one foot in front of the other. The tortoise knew that slow and steady would win the race. The hare had other ideas.

Perseverance. It is to be valued. When was the last time you were stretched in this area? Not to worry, if you haven’t in a while, you will get an opportunity. And when you do, just remember, you can do it. You really can.
